About the project

A short presentation of the project

Title: Media Awareness Generating In-formed Citizens - MAGIC

This is a Comenius School Partnership, in which 7 countries (schools) take part and work together for 2 years from 2013 - 2015. The partner countries are: Spain (coordinating country), Greece, Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Slovakia and Slovenia.

As the title suggets the main goal of the project is to raise students' awareness of the media and their influence. Students will study the media in their different forms and will look critically at the media influence in shaping our everyday decisions.
Social networks, advertising, consuming influences and the press will be studied. To show their level of understanding, students will analyse the subjects and then do a related activity such as:
-  designing a questionnaire, processing and disseminating its results,
-  creating their own advertisement,
-  theoretical shopping to analyse what makes choose the things they buy and so on.
-  creating their own documentary, or mockumentary, based on one of the areas they have studied.
Students will:
-  work in independent groups, each group relating directly to a group in each partner country.
-  collaborate, share their work and ideas via a wide variety of Web 2.0 tools, such as blogs.
-  organise photo competitions, an online magazine, a comic book, exchange boxes, etc.
-  visit local media and meet journalists.

MAGIC STUDENTS from our school

There are 23 students from 1st and 2nd classes taking part in the Comenius project. They are divided into four groups. Each group has their own blog (which you find on the homepage of this blog) where you can meet them.
These are almost all the magicians from SEPŠ Koper (Jakob R. and some teachers were absent ):

Team of teachers from our school - Who are we?

In our school a team of 6 teachers will take an active part in the Comenius project, and we are: Nataša Jerman, Meri Logar, Tanja Skok, Tanja Benčič Rihtaršič, Nataša Vrčon Tratar and Senija Smajlagić.

Hi everyone,

I'm Nataša Jerman, I teach English at our school and I'm also the school coordinator of this project. This is my second Comenius project, and I'm really looking forward to it. Our school has already been in a Comenius project called Learn to Click on Your Future.

I studied English and Italian at the University of Ljubljana, but now I teach English only. I lived and worked in Ljubljana for a few years, but then I moved back to my hometown - Koper. Now I live in a small village near Koper with my family, our dog and a cat.

I like travelling, meeting new people and exploring new places. I'm not that good at computers, but I guess this why we do things like this - to learn new "stuff". I also like singing, reading books and animals. In fact, we have just adopted a baby cat that has been forsaken by her mother. She is only two weeks old.

My new hobby is MAGIC and this is me at work:

As you can see, I'm still a beginner and I need to consult the book, but I hope I will become an expert while working with all of you in this project. I'm really excited about it.

Hi! My name is Meri Logar and I am a History and Geography teacher at our school. I am going to participate in this project together with my colleagues.  I have some experience with such projects as I've already worked on an international school project.

I studied at the University in Ljubljana. I live in a village Šmarje near Koper with my family. Our school is in Koper which is a historical town in the south-west of Slovenia.
I like travelling and learning about new cultures, meeting new people, dancing, listening to all kinds of music, going to the theatre…

Hello everyone! My name is Tanja, I live with my family in Koper. I studied history and geography at the University of Ljubljana. I teach at two schools: Secondary School of Business and Economics and also at Secondary School of Health Care. I like working in various projects as I always learn something new. I have been running a student exchange project for a few years now, in which we work with a school from Sweden. My hobbies: skiing in winter and lazing on the beach in summer.
Looking forward to meeting you all :)
